Welcome to Costessey Junior School

Year 3

Stone Age to Iron Age

Stone Age to Iron Age

In the first half of the Autumn term Year 3 will be learning about the Stone Age, they will use timelines to understand where in history this period is and how life changed as different metals were discovered.  They will look at the lives of Stone Age and Iron Age families and learn how tools can affect the way we live and work.  They will use storyboards to imagine themselves in this historical world!  To support your child in their learning why not visit the BBC website for some great craft activities and a funky film too!

In science the children will be learning about different rocks and fossils, including those used for tools and in buildings.  They will learn how to classify rocks according to their properties.  In Art the children will get an opportunity to try out lots of different materials and will get to make cave paintings on slate.

Street Snooker

We got involved and supported the opening of the street snooker activity at the Costessey Centre. 15 of our year 3 children had a wonderful afternoon taking coaching tips from a member of the 2012 Olympic Handball team.

In the final half term year 3 are learning that they are what they eat.  They will learn about food and nutrition and how to keep a healthy lifestyle.  The children will compare our diets today with the Victorian and Stone Age diets they have learnt about earlier in the year.  In ICT they will create an animation showing the journey of a banana to understand how far some of our food travels.  In Art they will learn about a variety of artists, and create artwork inspired by the 2016 Olympics and healthy eating.

Why not have a go at some great online games to find out how much you know about food?

Egyptian Experience

On Wednesday 25th May Lorraine Theobald, a professional dancer, came into school to work with year 3 children, giving them an Egyptian dancing experience. The experience included a history of Egyptian Arts, including musical instruments, dancing attire and props used when dancing too! It was great fun and the children learnt lots to add to their topic learning for this half term.

Learn with your Child

Our first ‘Learn with your Child’ lesson took place today.  It was a great success, thank you to Miss Davis for inviting everyone in and to all the parents who came along.  We hope you found it both useful and enjoyable.  There will be more soon so keep an eye out on ParentMail or in your child’s book bag for an invitation.
