Year 6

Hautbois Activity Centre (Wednesday 18th May 2017)

On Wednesday, Year 6 visited Hautbois Activity Centre as a reward for all their excellent hard work and effort leading up to the SATs. It was a brilliant day (if a little soggy!) and it provided an abundance of out-of-classroom learning.

The children took part in a mixture of activities that included:

  • Abseiling
  • Orienteering
  • Archery
  • Crate stacking
  • Bushcraft
  • Shelter Building

As part of our English lesson on Thursday, the children wrote a Trip Advisor review for the centre. This included a variety of Year 6 writing features such as: modal verbs, relative clauses with parenthesis and the use of their senses to add detail.

Here are a few examples:

Tudor Fun

Today year 6 had a special visitor to show us a wide range of Tudor instruments. The children got to listen to and play on instruments such as: the harp, krumm horn, tambor drum, wooden recorders and flutes. The children had the opportunity to dress up as Tudor characters such as Anne Boleyn and King Henry VIII, we also had a number of peasant workers and the odd executioner too.

Over the past week, the children have been creating their own Tudor house designs. Today, the children took part in a year group celebration. Take a look at picture below to see what fun we had.

The Tudors

Tudors

In the Autumn term Year 6 will begin by learning about the Tudors they will study some of the significant events of the period including the Ketts Rebellion, they will learn about the monarchs who shaped the time and how their decisions affected society.

In Science the children will consider different lifestyles from the period and compare them to today, looking at diet, health and life expectancy.  The children will get the opportunity to extend their game development knowledge in ICT following on from their work in Year 5.

Learn with your Child Lessons

Today, Tuesday 28th June, it was the turn of Year 6 to learn with their family.  6S were planning a fantasy holiday while trying to keep to a fixed budget, 6P were artists for the morning exploring different techniques and materials and 6C got a full tour of the curriculum ending with learning the 17 times table!  It was a great morning, thank you to the pupils and teachers for putting it on and to all those who came along and took part.

Get Safe

Some of the year 6 children got the chance to take part in the Get Safe Event run by Norfolk County Council, learning about how to be safe in and around water. They had the opportunity to have coaching from the RNLI and Norfolk Police.
